I love to learn about history to learn from the past

I love to learn about history to learn from the past.

We (my wife, mother-in-law, three daughters and I) happened to visit The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida today after seeing what was near a park we were visiting.

The Holocaust itself was an extremely tragic and horrific event. There were video interviews of some survivors that live in Central Florida and it was very sad to hear the conditions that they had to endure.

It is incredible to think that human beings were capable of committing such atrocities.

That is why it is all the more heartening to see some of the survivors share their stories. From one perspective, the Holocaust can be seen as the most extreme form of bullying. While we cannot change the past, we do have the opportunity to mold the future.

As one of the logos (pictured below) from the museum’s website suggests, we should learn from the past to protect the future.

I believe something that we can do specifically that learning about the Holocaust teaches us is to:

Speak Up!

I wonder how far Hitler may have gotten if someone would have called him out before he got into power.

I love to learn about history to learn from the past!
