I love to be thanked for sharing career advice.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in a career panel at the local state college, Seminole State. It was an enjoyable experience. I hope to do it more often in the near future at Seminole State and other schools in the area.
For those not familiar with career panels, the purpose is to answer student questions about careers in general and the careers of the professionals present. How did they get to where they are? How do they break into the field and other such questions. The setup is normally a group of 3 to 5 professionals sitting in front of an audience of 20 to 60 students.
I enjoy the interaction and curiosity of the students, young and old. I love that they are really interested in improving and helping themselves.
I find that sharing career advice is fulfilling. I feel good that I can make a positive impact in people’s lives. If they take the panel’s the advice and do something great, all the better! We will have created a better world.
It is also a nice touch to receive a note of appreciation. I also received a surprise gift, a $10 Starbucks card. So I can consider this my first paid speaking engagement. 🙂
I love to be thanked for sharing career advice!
